How Strategic Are You In Business?

We've been away from the internet marketing scene for about 6 months now as our company has added a Government unit and a quest to build a billion dollar business in 3 years.

I know that sounds outrageous, but that's what it takes sometimes to leap to new levels in business.

Don't let your dreams be stiffled by income levels set by what your peers are accomplishing.

We have a solid plan and a solid team and we are going for it. What we are doing is offering strategic marketing services to the Federal Government.

Our business model is simple and I'll share it with you.

We look at what different Government Agencies say they are in need of. Based on that information, if we feel we can win, we mobilize the team and build a business model from the ground up that meets and exceeds what they are looking for, we then take it to the Government and offer it to them on lease for up to 5 years... so we still own it.

In every case, we have 100% buyin of the leasing model, however, we still have to deal with competitors who have their own ideas and want these contracts.

Internet Marketing Tips to Increase Online Sales, Part 2

Internet Marketing Tip: Upgrade them to a second copy. Use a phrase such as, "Receive a second copy of XXXXX for just $$$$$ more - have an extra copy for a friend or as a backup." Having a back up for many people today is very important, so use that in your sales process and brace yourself for the sales bump. Also, don’t forget the gifts. Position your offer as a gift that, if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for a friend. Get the point? Encourage them to do their friend a favor and secure a second copy for a lower price. This is such a great upsell and so easy to do, that it’s amazing how
many miss this one.

Internet Marketing Tip: If you offer a physical homestudy course, offer your "Personal Strategy Guide" for 10% more. That means if your home study course is $997, then the add-on price can be $99.00 or something within that range. Allow your new customers to get there hands on your personal journal and records of how you use the strategy beyond what the course offers. No home-study course is able to keep up with the pace of change because the moment your create it, it becomes stagnant and the moment something changes, the course is now for the most part obsolete. So use that as a profitable advantage in your selling process. Even if your offer is on the lower end for hobbyist, this strategy is worth a whirl.

Internet Marketing Tip: The Delayed Trade Up Program. This is simple. After you have secured a new customer, send a bonus CD of a relevant product with only 20% of the content unlocked and available, make the other 80% visible, however inaccessible. Sell them the other 80% with ability to unlock the rest of the CD for instant access. Now that’s delicious! Taste this one and you will be addicted to the additional profits that it brings.

Internet Marketing Tip: Here’s another Delayed Offer. Sell the bonuses only after multiple tries to sell the product. This is an amazing strategy. Can you believe that you can take your value added bonuses and go back to those who have repeatedly decided to not purchase your main product and offer just the bonuses for sale and have 20% or more actual buy them… at no less that 50% lower that the price of the main product? Yep! Sure enough, it works. Give it a try with your list and bonus offers.

Now here are three more quick ideas. If you know what they are and know how to use them, it almost makes it impossible to not make more and more money each day in your business. Here they are…

Internet Marketing Tip: Up-sell to a total solution package.

Internet Marketing Tip: Down-sell to a partial purchase.

Internet Marketing Tip: Cross-sell into complementary products and services.

Here are two additional profit optimization tips.

Internet Marketing Tip: Offer upsells on a bridge page and then offer another, different upsell on the actual order form.

Internet Marketing Tip: Offer a coupon on your thank you page (after a sale, feedback form, etc). You can say something like, "Thank you for XXXXX. For helping us out/purchasing XXXXX you get the following coupon code: CODE This offer is good for XXXXX and expires XXXXX. Simply enter the code when checking out and you get XXXXX."

Here are two closing points…

Internet Marketing Tip: Make the offer! People cannot respond to what they don’t see. Unless they see the offer, multiple offers, they cannot and will not respond. You have to SHOW & TELL to SELL!

Internet Marketing Tip: No doesn’t mean “not at all.” When a potential buyer turns down an offer or a new buyer turns down an upsell, that doesn’t mean they are not interested in making a purchase or adding to their active purchase. It simply means what you put in front of them is not what they want. So, what’s the solution? Put something else in front of them. Put at least 3-5 separate upsell offers and options in front of them during one purchase cycle.

Internet Marketing Tips to Increase Online Sales, Part 1

Following are some amazingly effective internet marketing tips to increase your profits from each sale you make.

However each internet marketing tip alone is not enough. The execution of the internet marketing tip will determine how effective and profitable they will be for you.

While we have a preferred ordering process that makes the following strategies more potent, space doesn’t allow for us to go into that this time. So instead, let’s give you a different quick illumination that you can use immediately to add punch and vigor to these simple strategies.

Okay, so here is your illumination. Ready? Keep this one thing in mind when looking to upsell so you can get more juice from any single trade-up strategy.

This is simple yet powerful and when you can pull this off, you can look forward to an amazing jump in profits without adding any new unit volume to your current sales flow.

So here it is. Make it your objective to have the buyer say to him/herself, “WOW, I didn’t know that!” …when they see your upsell offer.

What does that mean?

Well, let’s get right into these internet marketing tips and use the first one as an example of how you can have your new customer say “WOW, I didn’t know that!”

PROFIT OPTIMIZATION ALERT! When you have the offer that makes your new customers say “WOW, I didn’t know that!” then you can run that same offer to your current customers to get a nice bump up in new purchases. Try it. You’ll be amazed.

Internet Marketing Tip: For software sellers! If you sell software, offer a "Tips and Tricks" manual for an additional $19.97. Here is a possible “WOW!” moment. “After having developed and used this software for a year and collaborating with users worldwide, I found this software to be over 300% more powerful then we’d original thought. It’s amazing how your results can be tripled with these additional insights. As a result of this revelation we’ve developed our secret handbook of tips and tricks that we are making available in a limited supply of…”

Okay, so you get the idea. You can build on that. You present some kind of statement of “revelation” that makes them say “WOW, I didn’t know that!” and is associated with the upsell.

Internet Marketing Tip: Here’s another one for software sellers. Offer a back up version of your software on CD as an upsell. This is a solid gem that all software sellers should test immediately.

Internet Marketing Tip: Add on premium/priority support. There’s nothing more like getting the royalty treatment. Test adding premium support and/or some kind of priority support and service to any package you are selling that’s over $97.00 and see what happens.

Internet Marketing Tip: Offer Priority Rush Delivery at twice your cost to make a profit from faster delivery. Many companies pad the rush charge so they can make a profit on it. Hey, what do you think that “handling fee” is all about? If you are delivering physical products, put the offer on your order page, make it highly visible as a shipping option and sit back and watch the percentage of buyers that select it. It’s a pretty cool no nonsense add on that allows buyers who are rushing for your offer to get it now… get it fast… get it overnight.

Internet Marketing Tip: Add a $19.95 monthly continuity program to your product. Plan out a series of additions to your products just like the television networks plan out a television series. Know what you are going to deliver and when. Package it all up and add it on to your main package as the latest and greatest of what they are buying today. This is a great way to take a one time purchase and turn it into a 5 to 7 month revenue stream.

Internet Marketing Tip: Use the “old school” Order Trapper that's talked about in The Whole Truth. Use a phrase such as "Order within the next 7 minutes and you'll receive..." and add an additional bonus. Have a nice pop up appear with a countdown clock that starts at 7 minutes and put the screws to them to take immediate action to secure that luscious bonus dangling in front of them. Now, the best place to test this depends on your website stats. For example, if you have a large percentage of people who abandon your shopping cart or order page, then test it there. If the larger number of people are abandoning a different page, then test it on that page. In fact, test a different offer on each page and watch you trap more orders and your profits scream up the charts.

Internet Marketing Tip: For eBook sellers! Offer a physical version of your ebook as an upsell. Pretty simple eh? Yea, it’s the obvious, yet most don’t do it …and it’s quite profitable in fact. Test it and count how much more profit you start taking to the bank.

Internet Marketing Tip: Here’s another one for eBook sellers. If you sell an eBook, offer an "mp3" download of additional unreleased information for $19.97, or you can simply record your entire ebook as an audio book and offer that as the upsell. Add to that upsell an option to get a back up version of the audio on audio CD for an additional $14.97. (Many people don't burn mp3's, so don't make the assumption that everyone purchasing an mp3 will. Also, people who download valuable mp3’s oftentimes misplace them. Yea sounds silly, yet it’s true. So take that truth to your bank.)

Cost Effective Internet Marketing Strategies

Cost effective Internet marketing strategies are not synonymous with free Internet marketing strategies. Cost effective means that for the money you get good or even great results. A strategy is different from a tactic in the real world, in the e-world strategy and tactics have become synonymous.

E-mail ranks equal to search engine optimization as the most cost effective Internet marketing strategies. That is emails that offer something to the reader and are opted for, or generated from opt-in services and not Spam. One good example of what to offer that is cost effective is to write a useful report and give it away. Another cost effective marketing strategy is to offer a free ezine that offers real value in each issue.

People do not purchase from those they do not know. So you need them to get to know you. A better understanding of how to get people to know you can be gained by analyzing the process.

"Cold Readers"

These are people new to your site, or who have just filled out the form on your website, or whose details you have received via co-registration. You know nothing about them and they know little about you.

"Curious Readers"

These people may have opened one or two of your emails and have at least decided to stay on your list long enough to find out what you're about and what they can gain by reading your emails.

"Interested Readers"

These people have opened and read several of your emails and continue to read them. Perhaps they have "moved" themselves from your "cold" list by opting-in to one your offers.

One way to know who your "interested" prospects are is to offer a free ebook or something related to what you’re selling and make them "register" for it by opting in to a second autoresponder. Another is to invite them to participate in a survey and capture their contact information when they do so.

"Excited Readers"

These are the people who are almost ready to buy. They need some sort of "push" or "nudge" to get them to take action. Maybe they need a "special offer" of some kind, or simply a personal follow-up email or phone call from you. Whatever it is, these are your hot prospects.

"Customer"

At last! These are the people who have bought your product, joined your opportunity, or bought something that you promote as an affiliate. In the long run, these are the folks who will make you the most money, because it will become easier and easier for them to act on your recommendations, as long as you don't betray their trust by endorsing poor quality products or programs.

Even though they may represent only a tiny percentage of the entire population of your list, these people are your long-term gold mine group. Treat them with respect.

More importantly your cost per sale will decrease over time as you build your lists and work through each part of your email campaigns on a regular basis.

As Microsoft looks to optimize performance to compete with Google, it looks like they have eBay in the crosshairs for a possible acquisition, as reported in the New York Post.

The Suboptimization of Success

When you mention XM Satellite (formerly American Mobile Satellite) and Sirius (formerly CD Radio), just don't mention them in the same room as Execs from Clear Channel.

Why?

Because as Clear Channel went on a buying spree of other radio stations, swelling up from just under 50 stations to more than 1,200 stations, it took a pass on the two satellite licenses that the US Government made available.

Guess who snapped them up?

Yep, you guessed it. XM Satellite and Sirius.

It's been pretty much downhill for Clear Channel ever since.

Why did Clear Channel who had plenty of money, pass up the opportunity to hold claim to one of the only two satellite positions available.

While one can only speculate, we do have enough evidence to suggest what happened.

Clear Channel (and Viacom for that matter) were so caught up in their present success (at that time), that it blinded them to the changing landscape and emerging opportunities in satellite radio.

Their narrow focus to optimize the companies success by owning more radio stations, has lead to suboptimization of its profits.

In all of the boardrooms in Clear Channel, they must of forgot to engage in "futuring" to anticipate market shifts and trend changes.

Value quickly began migrating from AM/FM to satellite and like running East to set a sunset, Clear Channel found itself heavily invested in the wrong direction.

What has this cost Clear Channel?

The cost has been in the BILLIONS of dollars as one negative effect jumpstarted so many that they are too numerous to name.

Talk about unintended consequences.

GEESH!

Another Way To Make A Difference

We just found a great way to give to children who need it. It took me a few minutes to find a project that peaked my interest and donate money to make the project a reality...

Because we have our "sold out" Publishing 4 Profits seminar this weekend, we were looking for a good cause to donate to on behalf of this event.

"For the past two years, my students' favorite unit has been the short story writing unit. This is, I think, in part because the kids have complete say over how their story is going to work, how they revise etc.

This year, I plan to have an ongoing writing workshop for my eighth graders in which, about twice a week, students will work on their own writing (not just short stories, but all kinds of non-fiction, poetry and drama as well).

I need some materials to make this truly independent. As one goal will be to get their writing published, I would like students to be able to find places to publish. Some of this will happen on the Internet, and I will bring in laptops for them to use, but I'd really like to have a lot of print resources for them as well.
