Microsoft to Purchase eBay?

As Microsoft looks to optimize performance to compete with Google, it looks like they have eBay in the crosshairs for a possible acquisition, as reported in the New York Post.

How would Microsoft purchasing eBay optimize Microsofts performance and make them more competitive with Google?
